I'm a suburbanite. I live in the South West of Paris, more precisely between Paris and versailles, in a towm called Velizy Villacoublay, which at about 10 kms from the Eiffel Tower, you certainly knows what I'm talking about...
It's easy to visit Paris and its surroundings from my home, so if you intend to come and visit paris, I have a room available...

Hello John,
Our branch of the family comes from Sainte Enimie (where my father born in 1929) in the "Gorges du Tarn". My father is André Bazalgette, brother of Jean Bazalgette and son of Auguste Bazalgette. I'm a cousin of Jean Pierre Bazalgette who is the father of Thibaud (who has spent few month in London this year) and Delphine Bazalgette that have reached the Bulletin Board few months ago.
About the family, I only know what I've read in the Jean Bazalgette's (not the Jean Bazalgette, my father's brother, another one) book untiteld "Compagnon de LaFayette" which tell the story of one of our ancester that left France with LaFayette to reach USA, and then cross back (!) Atlantic ocean to join London, where a member of his line of descent became famous building the London'sewers. So famous that he has is chest on Victoria Enbankment not far from the Thames, hasn't he ?
perhaps are you from this branch of the family to ?
It's nearly all what I know about my small part of the family and about the origin of the name...

Let me add my greetings to you and your family.
You may find it of use, in tracing your part of the family, to contact Jean-Claude Lacroix [[email protected]]who is president of the genealogical society of the Cevennes. His Wife is a Bazalgette and they may have some information for you.
The 'Compagnon de Lefayette' book is just a roman I'm afraid, and is very far from the truth. Have a look under 'useful links, which will lead you to the official biograpy of Jean-Louis, though it is far from complete. It also gives some more information of the English side of the family.
